There’s a significant shift in energy now Mercury moved back into Aries, joining Neptune, receiving and passing on messages about the nature of this new era. Mars just left Cancer, where the warrior has been spending most of his retrograde journey, retreating? Regenerating? Or stirring up our inner world, defending our space, trying to safeguard our comfort zone? Things are ramping up, heated. We’ve made it through the personal planet retrograde madness, started by Mars, way back, taken over by Venus and Mercury. We’ve turned into direct motion, we’re done with all the back and forth, the changes of mind, heart and direction. Meanwhile, the threesome is still traveling through post retrograde shadows. We ain’t done readjusting, we’re just finding our footing, getting stuff sorted, about to get going. And yet we’re to face the potentially biggest challenge of all. This isn’t a new one, it has been ongoing. It’s just about to get more intense.
For when Mars reenters Leo, ready to Rock’n’Roar, the opposition to Pluto is back on. The first standoff took place in the beginning of November. Quite a pivotal time. The new year started out with a second pass. The current Mars Pluto cycle began with their first conjunction in the sign of Aquarius, mid February of last year. Marking the beginning of a shift in the handling, execution and distribution of power, even a transition of power and influence from one plane to another. While the opposition signifies a culmination of this transformation in power dynamics, it also bridges, potentially finalizes, Pluto’s epic transition from Capricorn to Aquarius, with the first opposition, almost half a year ago, so strongly emphasizing the anaretic degree of the Cancer Capricorn axis. The axis of boundaries and security. In the story of this Mars Pluto opposition, it’s not just the serious and deep rooted conflict between the Warrior and the Lord of the Underworld unfolding – as if that weren’t enough – this aspect also carries and holds the collective tension and the upheaval of Pluto changing signs, highlighting the respective axis.
While Pluto in Capricorn unearthed corruption, limiting laws and regulations, the rigidity of the 'the system', oppressive control, the law of traditional hierarchy and the rule of economy, it’s growth at all cost, the Lord of the Underworld is now taking on Aquarian shadows like supremacy through an elitarian mindset promoting discrimination and exclusion by way of political and ideological extremes, the rise of Plutocracy and Technocracy rooted in all the above. In the energy that is now building we’re dealing with nothing less than major confrontations and conflict of interest over the use and abuse of power, the underlying dynamics and motivations revealing the hidden agenda. All while we are walking our inner deep dark cave once more, confronting our darkest shadows in the suppressed and subconscious rubble we’re plowing through. It isn’t the cold damp sweat of hard, glistening rock we’re breathing. It’s more immediate now, still more intense. This time, we might be walking on embers to be forged in fire.
When the Sun enters Taurus, a T-square is formed. And at the fourth corner stands Black Moon Lilith, guarding the sign Mars and Pluto rule. While Lilith is known to be raw, wild and untamed just like that very first degree of Aries where Neptune now resides, this point in space does evoke our deepest existential fears. Potentially even more so in Life and Death themed Scorpio. While the Taurus Sun seems to be settling things, stabilizing - it might even bring a sense of de-escalation – it is a significant contribution to all the fixedness. Not wanting to budge. Keeping everything in place. Holding on to what is, what we have, what we need. Taurus offers safety in familiarity, providing reliance by maintaining things as they are, power struggles included. This fixed cross holds an immense amount of defiance with a shrill note of hysteria and a deep seated fear of any concept of renewal and change while the pressure of major resistance against the powers in play is building - with Pluto in Aquarius, part of this cross, preparing the ground to revolutionize this world. There’s inherent internal conflict, there’s an immense amount of tense and compulsive energy locked in.
This is so loaded. To powerful to be contained. It can’t be kept under control. There’s a leak, so to speak, an outlet, and it’s a big one. Neptune in Aries marks the point of release of this mighty Mars Pluto opposition. Channeling the energy, then dispersing it. Becoming aware of a new awareness. A course of action, too. A direction to go. While the conjunction with Mercury can be translated as the introduction to Neptune’s mission in this new and rather unfamiliar realm, the easy aspect with Mars undoubtedly represents a major activation of energy that is fresh yet unpredictable and unfathomable, full of surprises, unleashed now to be explored. This isn’t the ethereal, floating energy of Pisces. This is cardinal fire being ignited by Leo emboldened Mars. The trine to Neptune was in place, too, at the first pass, last November. Back then, it flowed between Cancer and Pisces – might have been tempting us to buy into an illusion, take the path of least resistance. We're talking - and walking - fire signs now, the very first degree of Aries and Leo, Mars now ruling Neptune, setting things in motion kind of effortlessly. This is a collective 'Go', a headlong and possibly premature, impulsive leap of emboldened faith, this is the initiation of a very new and fresh vibe we don’t know yet how to handle. An immense boost of energy, a flame roaring, a flare up growing into a blaze, yet it might be all over the place and out of control and spreading like wildfire. It can be all we want it to be, can take every shape. If it is possible for a collective decision to just happen, this is what might be occurring. This could take us too far too fast. It can be overwhelming. We’re firewalking, riding a different kind of wave. Our wake up call is getting louder.
Last autumn, all those mighty energies condensed and compressed into an incredibly potent Scorpio New Moon. The respective Full Moon, the culmination of the power of transformation, the metamorphosis out of cataclysm, has yet to transpire.

Here we go, Mars taking us for a ride through that outer planet sequence. The cooperative sextile to Uranus should be easy to navigate, providing the opportunity for a gentle breakthrough, taking a cautious, courageous new kind of approach. From here on, things could get trickier. While Mars in flow with Neptune might be a spiritual experience, chasing …
